Abstract:

In the allowable stress design, the safety of structures have been ensured by safety factor based on static strength. Under dynamic loading condition, the allowable stress based on allowable stress design concept don't include the uncertainty occuring in the service condition. This study tried to estimate the reliability by treating the decrease of strength and the variation of load as random variable, and then the vailidity of allowable stress of rail specified by the Office of Korea National Rail Road as compared with reliability-based allowable stress.
