Abstract:

This paper deals with reduction of first excursion probability of nonlinear secondary system subjected to seismic excitations. Especially, gap and friction characteristics are considered as nonlinear characteristics. A theoretical estimation method for first excursion probability of secondary system with gap and friction subjected to nonstationary artificial time histories is developed. By using this method, first excursion probability is obtained for various parameter values of gap and friction characteristics. It can be shown that first excursion probability can be reduced by gap and friction.
