Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Structural Safety and Reliability

Abstract:

This paper demonstrates the use of Modified Fault Tree Analysis (MFTA) and Modus Tollens Deduction (MTD) techniques for assessing the safety of redundant components due to common cause events. The MFTA is used to indicate the interrelationships among components and events. The MTD employs fuzzy set and fuzzy logic concepts for interpreting subjective judgment of experts into graphical representation. A relatively simple example is presented to illustrate the use of this concept graphically.
