Abstract:

The probability distribution of the strength of steel towers used in transmission lines, due to wind excitation, is evaluated on the basis of test results of 72 towers of various designs, fabricated in Brazil. A mathematical model is proposed to account for the variability introduced in the tower strength by the analysis, design, fabrication and erection processes.
