Abstract:

An efficient finite-difference method, the HH-SIMPLE, has been developed that is based on a new concept of hydraulic pressure with two additional equations concerning the water surface elevation H. The method retains major advantage of the SIMPLE algorithm, to adopt implicit finite difference schemes to discretize momentum equation. The HH-SIMPLE method is applied to the flow over a broad crested weir for 3-dimensional situations so as to obtain the velocity, pressure fields and the free surface configuration. The numerical model is validated by comparing predicted results with experimental data.
