Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Legal, Institutional, Financial and Environmental Aspects of Water Issues

Abstract:

This paper presents a method for estimating the impact of irrigation withdrawals on streamflows and shows the application of that method to the Kankakee River Basin of Illinois and Indiana. Results of simulations for the period of historical record indicate that compared to municipal and industrial withdrawals irrigation is an important potential threat to maintenance of instream flow needs of the Kankakee.
