Abstract:

A conceptual model for evaluation of structural damage is developed based on the fundamental idea of demand and capacity. The proposed formulation combines two recognized sources of damage: permanent deformation and strength deterioration. An implementation of the model to bilinear hysteresis is presented as an initial application. Evaluation studies of progressive damage are carried out on a 2-bay, 3-story R/C frame that was tested to failure.
