Fatigue of Reinforcement in Partially Prestressed Beams

Abstract:

A summary of the findings of an extensive experimental program on the fatigue characteristics of partially prestressed concrete beams is described. It is observed that the stress range in the reinforcement is not the only factor controlling fatigue. Other factors combined with the stress range, such as the crack width range under cyclic load and fretting between the steel and the concrete or between wires of the same tendons can contribute significantly to premature fatigue failure.
