Evaluation and Remediation of Construction Defects in Tilt Wall Panels

by Frederick J. Krishon, Law Engineering, United States,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Structural Materials

Abstract:

Both the surface appearance and structural safety were of concern to the Owner of a five year old warehouse structure that was experiencing delamination of tilt-up wall panels. Delamination was occurring between the exposed aggregate/mortar facing and the reinforced concrete panel section. Epoxy injection repair methods had been attempted without appreciable effectiveness and the delamination was resulting in thinning of the load-bearing wall panels. A consultant was engaged to determine the potential for further delamination of the facing and to evaluate the possibility of future structural distress due to panel thinning.
