Abstract:

The purpose of this paper is to report the results of the application of a general discrete optimization procedure to the design of a realistic, three-dimensional steel building frame. The discrete optimization procedure has been previously published where it was applied to an academic two-dimensional frame. The procedure has been implemented into the general purpose optimization software package, OPTDES.BYU, which was used in this work.
