Abstract:

Imposed loads on beams and columns are generally reduced to effect in economy in design. A study to evaluate the reduction criteria by evaluating the Equivalent Uniformly Distributed Loads based on the structural effects in the supporting elements has been carried out. It is found from this study that the reduction of basic loads used in slab design is about 40% for the beam design and 45% in the case of columns.
