Abstract:

A failure stiffness criterion and a residual stiffness degradation model are proposed from which the statistical distribution of the fatigue life of composite laminates is derived. Experiments have been performed on graphite/epoxy [90,+45,-45,0]s laminates to verify the analytical model. It is demonstrated that the correlation between the experimental results and the theoretical predictions for the fatigue life distribution is quite reasonable.
