Abstract:

The success of smaller hydro schemes often lies in identifying feasible and economic waterway systems to develop relatively high heads between low intake weir and powerstation. This paper aims at stimulating discussion on the pros and cons of various conduits for small hydro power plants and is particularly aimed at the engineer practising in developing countries where availability of materials, limitations and costs of transport, and difficult site conditions often limit and dictate the choice and design of conduit.
