Abstract:

The Regional Planning Council (RPC) now is exploring through trial-and-error, the most effective, efficient means of performing travel demand forecasts cooperatively with its 'clients. ' Compatibility of microcomputer systems across agencies has created opportunities for clearer delineation of responsibilities in jointly performing technical transportation studies. It is now possible for local jurisdiction planners to contribute directly to the systems analysis process by creating databases for telecommunication or diskette-based transmission. Databases which could be assembled in this way includes network descriptions and small area demographic forecasts. The report describes RPC's progress toward attainment of this goal. The first step involves simple downloading of files from the mainframe to a microcomputer environment. A discussion of the manner in which various microcomputer software packages are utilized, individually and in combination, is presented.
