Abstract:

TVA is conducting a large-scale field experiment to quantify the groundwater transport and dispersion of leachates from solid disposal facilities. This project is an integral part of the Electric Power Research Institute's Solid Waste Environmental Studies Project which is designed to address all major geohydrochemical aspects of groundwater solute transport from the utility industry's coal-related wastes. Site characterization, test design, and other investigations performed in preparation for the injection of nonreactive tracers into the groundwater are described. An example of tracer concentrations collected from the sampling well network is presented.
