by Martin F. Rooney, Automated Thinking, Saxonville, MA, USA,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Computing in Civil Engineering

Abstract:

A general purpose software tool (or inference engine), called MAIDService, for use in creating artificial intelligence expert diagnostic systems is described. Syntax, development cycle, and control mechanism are explained. The goals and philosophies surrounding the creation of the inference engine begin the paper. The general operation of the program is next described. The construction of the basic conditional and assertion clauses are examined, along with the control mechanisms used to process and eliminate rules. The skeletons for building rules and facts are presented along with the allowable syntax and syntax variations for each statement within the skeleton. Both single and multiple clause conditionals are explained showing the use of Boolean logical operators. Single and multiple action rules are also illustrated.
