Abstract:

In the past, computer analysis of a design was always a separate and distinct step from CAD. Now, an increasing number of systems are combining the two. One system, SSCAD, allows the engineer to use the computer to design, draw, and even run machines to manufacture construction components. Chiquita was developed to do floor framing. ArteMate is a relational database combining not only CAD and analysis, but office functions such as word processing and spreadsheets as well. Several other systems are being modified to allow them to share data with commercially available CAD or analysis packages.
