Abstract:

C. V. G. Vallabhan has established an efficient iterative procedure to solve the Von Karman nonlinear plate equations using finite difference method for a rectangular plate. Here the method is extended for dynamic analysis of window glass subjected to transient pressure loading. The dynamic nonlinear von Karman equations are solved using finite difference method in space and Newmark beta method in time. An iterative procedure is used to achieve convergence of the solution of the nonlinear equations. For a model square glass plate subjected to triangular pulse loading, displacements, velocities, and accelerations are calculated and presented. Global maximum principal tensile stresses are computed and discussed.
