A Review of the Cross-Flow Turbine

by Richard Hothersall, GEC Energy Systems Ltd, Leicester, Engl,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Waterpower '85

Abstract:

The historical development of the cross-flow turbine is briefly presented together with a summary of the well-documented one-dimensional theory. Two-dimensional aspects of runner design are covered. Design features of the cross-flow turbine, relevant to its hydraulic performance, are highlighted. A cross-flow fan comparison is made. Cross-flow turbine performance is illustrated through data obtained from the literature and from tests carried out by the author. The application of these turbines is discussed.
