Abstract:

The rehabilitation of masonry buildings is a major construction activity in the United States. The available techniques and evaluation methodologies are limited to visual investigation by experienced engineers supported by structural analysis. Available tests are few. This paper summarizes current structural engineering practice and test and inspection methods for rehabilitation, and suggests research needs for the development of new test methods and investigation techniques.
