Abstract:

Computer-aided design and drafting systems that run on inexpensive microcomputers are examined. Several major systems (products) are covered via the users point of view. Many small civil engineering firms were interviewed. Productivity gains, quality of working drawings and other advantages are included. All of the interviewees are using hardware/software packages that are priced below $15,000. Some comparisons are made to a minicomputer system. Article includes three sample quotes that add up to $10,695; $12,889; and $26,653.
