Research Challenges in Frozen Ground Pile Design

by Anders Bro,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Civil Engineering in the Arctic Offshore

Abstract:

A fairly recent pile design analysis is reviewed. The influence of such factors as temperature, salinity, loading, etc. on frozen ground pile design is pointed out. Since many facets of frozen ground behaviour are not well understood, research is suggested to more fully understand and quantify frozen ground behaviour. Suggestions for researching and developing new pile configurations which could possibly result in higher capacity piles are presented.
