Abstract:

The 123 papers included in this publication describe the present state of practice, consider emerging concepts and requirements, define research and development needs and critique present educational programs regarding effectiveness in preparing and motivating civil engineers to assume leadership in developing the Arctic offshore. Topics include arctic structures and construction, artificial islands, ice, the arctic environment, exploration and site investigations, surveying, soil properties, and pipelines. These subjects are covered in theoretical studies and case reports. Special design requirements in the arctic environment are also covered.
