Abstract:

The history of island building in the Beaufort Sea of Canada and the United States is reviewed. Construction methods are discussed. These include hauling material from onshore in both the summer and winter as well as dredging. Slope protection systems are described. Two island projects are described in some detail. They are Sohio's Endeavor and Resolution islands built in 1980, and Esso Resources of Canada's Norman Wells islands built in 1983-1984.
