Abstract:

Over 5,500 Words and phrases used in water and wastewater control engineering are defined. The major areas covered in the glossary include: Sewage control, water pollution and water pollution ontrol, water works engineering, hydrology and pollutants. Terms are arranged alphabetically as they are used in the field; for example, absoring well appears unders a rather than under w as in well, absorbing. Definitions often include alternate terms with the same meaning; for example, the definition of catchwork notes that it is . . .also called catchwater. Extensive cross references are included. Where one term may have several meanings depending on the field of application, all meanings are included; basin lists six definitions. As appropriate, metric units appear parenthetically after English units. This third edition of the glossary reflects the great impact that chemistry and chemcial engineering have had in the field, and it includes terms appropriate to regulatory agency involvement.
