Abstract: From plug-in cars to trucks that roll along an “electric road,” the world of surface transportation is becoming increasingly electrified. Surges in both consumer interest and proposals to ban fossil-fuel vehicles mean that electric vehicles are on the move. Engineers planning for the future must consider challenges ranging from the state of the nation’s power grid to the best site conditions for locating electric-vehicle charging stations.
