Abstract:

Prepared by the Program Committee of the Offshore Technology Conference of the Coasts, Oceans, Ports, and Rivers Institute of ASCE.

This series presents classic papers from the early years of the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC), the world's leading event for the development of offshore resources in the fields of exploration, drilling, production, and environmental protection. More than 10,000 papers have been presented at OTC since it began in 1969, some of which provided innovation in, vision for, and lasting impact on the design, construction, or installation of offshore infrastructure. Many papers were adopted by design standards worldwide or have become an integral part of design software. Others have had influence far beyond the offshore industry, and some have become integral to the design process of onshore structures such as buildings and bridges.

Volume 8 is a special edition on the reliability of offshore structures. It contains six papers inducted into the OTC Hall of Fame in 2013, as well as seven papers previously inducted. The engineering innovations published in these papers have proven their value through widespread use and permeate codes, standards, guidelines, and engineering software.
