Part of: Selection of Irrigation Methods for Agriculture

Abstract:

Intelligent selection of the irrigation method that best meets the goals and objectives of an irrigated agricultural development is of primary importance in the design process. A system may be well designed but still be an inappropriate selection if another irrigation method would better meet the goals of the development. While knowledge of the characteristics of the various irrigation methods and the capability to produce optimal designs are essential in the irrigation method selection process, they are not sufficient. The additional necessary step is to select the best irrigation method and configuration of irrigation system for each specific site situation. This chapter examines the irrigation method selection process.
