Abstract:

Folks get set in their ways early in life. After they reach their early 20's it is hard to change them much. Still, the first job that an engineer gets can cause some important changes. One common change is the way in which we see the part in society that is ours to play. Another change is that the working world quickly drives away the idealism of youth. Yet, this does not need to happen. Engineers can and must hold onto these ideals if they are to give the most to society and the engineering profession.
