Abstract:

The introduction of rationalized design procedures for cast-in and post-installed anchors inEurope and the U.S. was intended to provide a uniform factor of safety for anchorages inconcrete, regardless of loading type or failure mode. While this objective has largely beenachieved, there remain a number of difficulties associated with anchorage design and with thetreatment of the anchorage problem in U.S. and European codes. This presentation identifies themost intractable of these problems and offers suggested directions of inquiry for their solution.
