Abstract:

Engineers designing a Manhattan skyscraper with offices in the lower floors and residences in the upper found that they had to employ several unusual methods to accommodate client needs. In addition to relocating columns and transferring loads through outrigger systems, they added a uniquely designed tuned-mass damper to counteract wind motions.
