Abstract:

This report is concerned primarily with the embankment itself although foundation and abutment treatment are considered essential elements of the embankment. It covers a broad range of relevant issues in the constructions of embankment dams. Topics it covers include failures and incidents of the past decade, field explorations and in-situ testing, laboratory testing, embankment design, construction, instrumentation, stress-strain analysis, field performance, and special problems. This report will be of interest to both practitioners and researchers working with the design and construction of embankment dams.
