Abstract:

The active interest and participation of all ASCE sections and branches is essential for success. This ASCE Public Information Handbook: A Guide for Section and Branch Public Information Committees will be helpful in outlining the basics of publicity, which is one tool of public relations. The goal of this guide is to help outreach programs educate people that civil engineering is a people-serving profession. To accomplish this, the handbook covers a range of topics, including recruiting effective people for public information committees, preparing good news releases, making personal contacts with media representatives, and how to have a nose for news and help plan programs of public interest.
