Abstract: Timber Piles and Construction Timber covers a broad range of timber related topics. Results of studies by the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Standards, a number of trade organizations, and interested corporations, have made it possible to design timber structures with the same accuracy and economy as is the case with other structural materials. This manual is prepared with the idea of furnishing the necessary design information in as condensed a form as practicable. This manual also states the more desirable and less desirable characteristics of various timbers, since certain well-known species of structural timber have decided advantages over others. Topics include timber species, causes of deterioration, protection of timber, piles and construction timbers, specifications for structural timber, and notes on the use of stress grades.
