Abstract:

The purpose of this manual, Surveys of Highway Engineering Positions and Salaries, is to outline a set of procedure and documents that may serve as a guide to those interested in inaugurating a survey of engineering positions and salaries in an engineering organization. Highway departments that do not have a complete personnel system may find the contents of this manual of assistance in setting up grade specifications of classifications, job descriptions, a service rating system, and salary ranges. The appended grade specifications are suitable, with obvious modifications, as a first draft for several sizes of highway departments. The other procedures are discussed in detail, but are only casually documented.
