Abstract:

This manual, Pile Foundations and Pile Structures, is an assembly of data relating to pile foundations and pile structures which is intended to be informative and to serve as a guide to engineers. It endeavors to enunciate sound principles which are based on established facts, and to avoid stating rules or giving formulas which might lead to unintelligent use. It covers a broad range of topics related to pile foundations and structures, including types and general characteristics of piles, purposes of piles, pile driving, effect of driving piles, durability of piles, distribution of stress to the surrounding soil, pile driving formulas and load tests of piles, characteristics of the site, design of pile foundations, and supervision and conduct of construction work.
