Abstract:

One of the founding documents concerning the standardization of lock valves, Manual on Lock Valves unifies a broad, diverse topic. Normally, only where a number of locks are to be constructed on a single waterway with practically uniform conditions as to building foundations and character of traffic to be accommodated is it possible to adopt a single type of lock which will be the best solution for the general situation. Accordingly, the plan adopted in preparing the present Manual was to have individual members of a committee prepare separate monographs descriptive of particular installations with which they are familiar and to supplement the descriptive matter.
