Abstract:

The structural engineering to support the architecture of a free-form, Frank Gehry-designed building is never easy, but the engineers for a new university building devised several innovative support systems. The new building on the campus of Case Western Reserve University was inspired by an Arizona canyon. It tested the engineers' ability to design better structural support systems for Frank O. Gehry's undulating system.
