A systematic method based on the relatively well-known enclosure or comparison theorem of Callatz is used to obtain the upper and lower bounds for the fundamental frequency of simply supported rectangular orthotropic plates with linearly varying thickness. The fundamental eigenvalues are given for several taper, aspect, and rigidity ratios. The values given show approximately the trend in frequency with change in thickness, shape of plate, and rigidities. Poissons' ratio is taken as 0.3, and 20 terms were used in the yn series expansion.
