Abstract:

This proceedings contains papers presented at the Eighth International Conference on Shotcrete for Underground Support, which took place in Campos do Jord?o, Brazil, in April 1999. It covers a spectrum of subjects ranging from revisiting early developments of shotcrete and steel fibers to design and construction methods for single-shell shotcrete-supported tunnels. Local shotcrete experience with single-shell-supported tunnels for the S?o Paulo subway constructed 20 years ago and recent design concepts currently under review, together with development in other countries, provoked an interesting evaluation of design and durability improvement of single-shell linings. The conference summarized many aspects related to the use of shotcrete for underground works that have resulted in important developments for the improvement of techniques, cost reduction and an increase in safety.
