Abstract:

The Surfrider Foundation is currently developing a volunteer-based mapping program to document the physical characteristics, land use patterns, pollution sources, public access, erosion, habitat and wave characteristics of America's coastlines. The aim of the program, so called Beachscape, is to mobilize the Foundation's vast national network of local chapters and volunteers to characterize their local coastal areas at a smaller scale than is currently available from most datasets.
