Abstract:
The Washington, D. C. metropolitan area is served by a world class transit bus and heavy rail subway system operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA). The system is the third largest in the United States, and works in close coordination with a host of other transit bus and commuter rail services operated by local governments and private contractors.
