Abstract:

The transportation system for Singapore in the next century needs to meet not only the increased demand to travel, but also the rising expectations for a quality transport system. Though, the challenge is to provide a high quality public transport system good enough to serve as an alternative mode, replacing private car usage. For transportation policies to be effective, it is necessary to maintain a long term perspective, anticipate change, understand the forces driving the demand and supply and adopt a holistic approach when responding to the challenges.
