Abstract:

The nature of the city in terms of the need for public transportation is discussed. As such, the public transportation modes to be dealt with are subway, bus, and taxi. This paper consists of three parts. At first, it will discuss the socioeconomic and land use elements, which affect the transportation environment in Seoul. Second, historic reviews on the travel patterns will be presented. Finally, it will discuss specific policy alternatives applied for solving the problems in Seoul.
