Abstract:

The Beijing Municipal Government operates a subway rail system and a surface system of trolleybuses, buses, jitneys and taxis. The Beijing Subway Corporation runs the subway system, and the Beijing Public Transport Corporation (BPTC) operates the surface public transport modes. These two municipal organizations serve a general population of nearly 12 million. This paper describes the total existing urban public transportation system in the city in terms of its size, operations, and use.
