Abstract:

The peak flood discharge from catchments is one of important information needed for the planning of the water resources projects. In many cases long term data of annual runoff are not available at a particular site. However meterological data such as peak runoff and other information regarding catchment characteristics are generally available. In this paper the available data from several sub-basins of Halilrood basin(Iran) have been used to verify the existing relationships for peak flood discharge estimation. Further, using the available data a simple deterministic model for estimation of peak flood discharge have been developed. This model incorporates important parameters like: area of catchment, rainfall intensity, slope of catchment, ratio of vegetal cover to total area of catchment and return period.
