Abstract:

This proceedings, Materials and Construction: Exploring the Connection, consists of papers presented at the 5th ASCE Materials Engineering Congress (MatCong5) held in Cincinnati, Ohio, May 10-12, 1999. The papers deal with topics at the forefront of civil engineering materials research and civil engineering construction. They explore the issues of how materials are used in the construction industry and how construction materials suppliers, engineers, and producers interact with their counterparts in the design and construction of civil engineering structures. The papers are divided into three subject areas: buildings; bridges and tunnels; and pavements. Contributors include industry and government professionals and academics from the United States and abroad.
