Abstract:

These proceedings, Wood Engineering in the 21st Century: Research Needs and Goals, are the product of a workshop held on April 16, 1997, in Portland, Oregon. The Structural Engineering Institute (SEI) Committee on Wood organized the workshop in conjunction with the SEI/ASCE Structures Congress XV. The primary workshop objective was to develop a framework for future coordinated research in wood engineering. Ten position papers are included, along with three, broad-based research initiatives. These initiatives were derived from working group discussions concerning research needs and priorities. Additionally, three general needs are presented because of their considered importance to the future of wood engineering.
