Document Type: Feature article
Abstract:
Design-build is on a roll, and the insurance industry is helping it roll along faster. Since 1987, the domestic volume of design-build construction has climbed from 6 billion to 56 billion per year, and that growth is expected to steepen as design-teams tap new insurance products that make the business of design-build a lot less risky. The biggest obstacle of allthe issue of professional liabilitymay soon lose its complex litigious undertones and become just another routine item on the design-builder's insurance checklist.
