Abstract:

Historically, the majority of effort expended in computer modeling of physical systems has gone into the numerical algorithms used in the computer programs. Other aspects of modeling have not received comparable attention, but are critical for reducing model study times and improving the reliability of model results. This paper summarizes several efforts at the Department of Water Resources, Delta Modeling Section, describes benefits and problems encountered, and future directions.
